Stop me if you’ve heard this one, but what a difference a day makes, especially to the volunteers and the benefactors of their time and good will. Mr. George Butterfield, of Butterfield & Robinson fame, was on a personal trip to Bhutan, and was gracious enough to spend some time with students at the Royal Academy of Tourism in Thimphu, Bhutan. What a treat for the students, to hear from an industry leader that knows a thing or two about customer service, and being true to your product and your clients. Bhutan is a country that is still so remote and tourists that come there are well traveled, and usually of some means, so travellers are used to have a great experience. For the men and women of Bhutan who are just learning about the tourism industry, hearing advice from Mr. Butterfield helps shape the type of guide or hotelier or tour operator that they will become.

We tend to think of volunteering as down on your knees, getting dirty and building something, but volunteering comes in many forms. Do you have a skill or knowledge that you’d like to share? Drop us a line, perhaps we can find a place for you to tell your story – and it can become a Global Story!
